NJ Woman Rescued from Well by Rescue Technicians

Aug. 1, 2023
Firefighters in Pilesgrove requested the assistance of rescue teams from Salem and New Castle County.

Technical rescue teams and firefighters worked for about an hour Monday to free a woman stuck in a well.

"We have never experienced anything like this in Pilesgrove and not really in Salem County," Reliance Fire Chief Brian Facemyer told reporters.

He said the operation required crews with special rescue training so they called for assistance.

"It's a pulley that's hooked to the end of a ladder. So that's how we lowered the firefighters down and also brought her up."

The effort wasn't a quick one because her leg was stuck in the mud,

"It took a while because of the mud. They had to dig it out in buckets because there was no space down there."

The victim was flown to a trauma center for treatment.
